Frequently Asked Questions
Consultation
During your consultation one of our medical team members will discuss your medical history, current skincare routine and your skin concerns and goals.
They will then make suggestions regarding any changes that you may need to make to your routine when using personalised skincare and explain the ingredients that will be included in your bespoke cream.
You can ask as many questions as you like to our medical team before your cream is formulated.
If, during your consultation, one of our team decides that personalised skincare is not suitable for you then you will be given an immediate refund following the call. This can take 5-10 working days to show in your account.
If you decide during your consultation that personalised skincare isn’t for you or if you change your mind, please let us know before the end of the call as your personalised cream will be ordered and produced in the lab immediately after your call.
Due to the bespoke nature of personalised skincare, orders can not be cancelled after your call.
For our online skincare service, we rely on photographs to provide our medical team with the visual information they need to offer personalised medical guidance tailored to your unique skin concerns. By submitting photos along with your consultation responses, our dedicated team can remotely assess your skin condition with precision and care.
Understanding that not everyone may be comfortable or able to share photos, it's important to note that without them, we may be unable to fully assess your skincare needs. Patient safety remains our top priority, and adherence to this process ensures the highest level of care.
Rest assured, your privacy is paramount to us. Any photos you provide are strictly used for medical purposes and stored securely in our medical database, in line with GDPR regulations and our privacy policies.
For the best results, we recommend following these tips for photo submission:
- Remove makeup, glasses, and keep hair away from your face
- Position yourself in well lit areas with natural daylight
- Avoid using filters to ensure accurate assessment.
- It's also helpful if your face and neck fill the frame for a detailed examination of your skin
We hope you understand when we say, unfortunately not. The Dr Storm personalised skincare service is exclusively for individual use and cannot be utilised on behalf of anyone else, be it friends, partners, or family members.
However, if you're a parent covering the costs for your child (or another individual), provided they are at least 16 years old and all personal details and consultation responses are theirs alone, then this is okay.
To ensure patient confidentiality is maintained, all communications should originate from the account holder rather than the payer.
Personalised Skincare
Firstly, congratulations! Unfortunately, most personalised skincare creams should be stopped while pregnant.
Breastfeeding mothers may use some creams but these are prescribed on a case by case basis.
We recommend keeping your skincare routine really simple during pregnancy and staying out of the sun!
Our basically brilliant collection of cleansers, moisturisers and SPF are perfect and safe to use whilst pregnant/breastfeeding. You can purchase these products here
Get in touch when you are no longer pregnant to restart your treatment!
We don’t normally suggest that patients stop their personalised skincare treatment before their summer holidays.
However, the high strength, active medical ingredients in your cream can make you more sensitive to the sun for the first 3-6 months.
With prolonged use some ingredients offer a SPF benefit due to the way it alters the skin’s structure. Our broad spectrum SPF50 is a holiday essential, don’t forget to use half a teaspoon of SPF50 for your face and neck every 2-3 hours. We also recommend always wearing a hat!
At Dr Storm, we have an amazing advantage as we are able to provide high strength ingredients that are not available over the counter. These ingredients have decades of clinical evidence supporting their use. Our medical team will work with you to help you find the right strength of medical ingredients for your skin.
The strengths of ingredients in our personalised skincare creams are often higher than our competitors.
However, the right strength for you is the one that you can use consistently with minimal side effects. Optimal results come with consistent use rather than strengths that can be used infrequently due to irritation.
If you have been using the same strength every night with no side effects for 8 weeks+ and feel that there is still room for improvement within your skin then it may indicate that you are ready to try a higher strength.
When you place a repeat order we will often check in with you, ask for updated images and discuss if increasing your strength is the right thing to do, but remember, a higher strength doesn’t always mean better results.
Your strengths of medical ingredients in your cream may increase/decrease depending on the season and the changes you experience in your skin.
We believe skincare is not one size fits all, and are always here to help and support you along the way.
When you first begin your personalised skincare journey, we recommend avoiding waxing for the first 3-4 months as your skin may be more sensitive as it becomes accustomed to the medical ingredients in your cream.
We recommend you minimise all other skincare products when using personalised skincare. This includes all other “active” ingredients and exfoliants.
A basic gentle cleanser, moisturiser and SPF50 is all you need.
If you are planning on having skin treatments such as microneedling, laser, skin peels etc then always check in with your provider how long you should avoid personalised skincare before and after.
If you have any questions regarding this, then get in touch with us at team@drstorm.co.uk.
You may experience some dryness and peeling in the first 3-6 weeks of using your personalised prescription cream. This is normal and nothing to worry about. If you feel you are experiencing more extreme side effects, please do not hesitate to contact us.
“Purging” is a rare side effect of personalised skincare. Most commonly, perceived “purging” is an acne flare that would have happened anyway.
We generally recommend continuing use even if experiencing a “purge” unless your skin barrier is compromised.
We recommend an extremely basic skincare regimen when using personalised skincare.
Our cleansers, moisturisers, and sunscreens are uniquely formulated to complement the active ingredients in your personalised cream. They nourish and protect your skin barrier, reducing the risk of side effects. Click here to add them to your next order.
Avoid using harsh exfoliant cleansers that can leave your skin dry and sensitive, such as those containing glycolic, salicylic acid or that are highly fragranced.
During treatment, steer clear of face cloths, brushes, scrubs, or any mechanical cleansers with microbeads, as they can damage your skin and lead to increased dryness/irritation.
Normally people feel their skin appears smoother and brighter within 1 month of using personalised skincare but it commonly takes 3-6 months for noticeable skin changes.
Blackheads/acne can take longer, around 6-12 months, to see improvement.
Yes! Your PS is absorbed into the skin. Fake tan lies on the surface of the skin. The two should not interact. However, if your skin becomes a bit dry in the initial stages then your fake tan may look a bit patchy!
Be careful not to use tanning lotions that include acids such as citric, salicylic or glycolic acid.
Skincare
Dr Storm skincare creams have been meticulously developed to address your specific skin needs and help you achieve your skincare objectives. Optimal results are attained when treatment is paired with a straightforward skincare routine that ensures your skin is thoroughly cleansed and protected, allowing your Personalised Solution to perform effectively.
Consistency is paramount in any skincare regimen. To maximise the benefits of your Personalised Solution, it is crucial to maintain a regular routine both morning and night.
Morning Routine:
- Cleanse: Skip cleansing in the morning. Opt for a splash of lukewarm water if required to wake you up!
- Hydrate: If your skin still feels dry, consider applying moisturiser before your SPF to enhance hydration.
- Protect: Apply a broad-spectrum SPF with both UVA and UVB protection, ensuring a minimum SPF of 50 to protect your skin from harmful ultraviolet radiation.
Evening Routine:
- Cleanse: Use a gentle cleanser to ensure your skin is completely clean, then pat your skin dry gently. Lukewarm water is better than hot water.
- Treat: Apply 2 pumps of your personalised skincare, dotted evenly across your face and neck, avoiding the upper eyelid area.
- Moisturise: Use a thick, ointment based moisturiser all over the face and neck to lock in water and support the skin barrier whilst you sleep and minimise irritation caused by prescription skincare.
Yes. Using a cleanser removes impurities, make up and dirt that have accumulated throughout the day ensuring your skin is clean and ready to absorb the active ingredients in your treatment.
Your cleanser should never leave your skin feeling dry, tight or irritated. Choose a gentle, fragrance free cleanser with minimal ingredients. Our favourite types of cleansers are gel or cream based.
Most people like using moisturiser. Moisturiser helps maintain your skin’s hydration and supports its barrier function, which is especially important when using personalised skincare.
Yes! This is called the sandwich method. Applying a moisturiser before and after your personalised skincare can help with any irritation you may experience when starting out or increasing your strength. If your skin doesnt feel dry, this isn’t necessary.
Using SPF/sunscreen daily, along with your personalised skincare, is the most effective way to protect your skin.
Studies show that using sunscreen alone can significantly improve your skin’s health by shielding it from harmful UV rays and reducing the risk of skin cancer.
Sunscreen also slows down the aging process and minimises pigmentation issues. Exposure to the sun can worsen acne, skin texture, fine lines, wrinkles, and pigmentation problems.
A moisturiser or makeup with SPF is often insufficient as most people do not use the recommended amount of these products.
Incorporate a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of at least 50 that protects against UVA and UVB rays into your daily routine…and use half a teaspoon for the face and neck!
Apply your personalised skincare every night and your sunscreen every morning after cleansing.
Delivery
Your personalised cream should arrive within 7-10 working days (sometimes sooner). If your cream has not arrived after this time, please get in touch with us via team@drstorm.co,uk so we can chase this up for you
Unfortunately, yes. This is completely out of our control and our ROI patients are subject to a customs charge (usually €20) that must be paid by the purchasing patient.
Don’t panic! The cleansers, moisturisers and SPF are dispatched separately from your Personalised Skincare, this is made up just for you in our lab and may take a little longer (it’s worth the wait we promise!)
We currently can only ship to the United Kingdom including Scotland and Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.
Support
We want all of our customers to be happy and have a positive experience. However if there is something wrong with your order, we want to hear from you! Get in touch via team@drtstorm.co.uk. We will respond to you within 24 hours.
Reordering
Simply login to your account, and answer a few simple questions here, if you are unsure of anything at this point then get in touch with us via team@drstorm.co.uk and a member of the team will get back to you.
Your treatment works best with consistent nightly use. One bottle of personalised skincare should last 2-3 months.
If you run out and forget to reorder do not panic, taking a break for a few days won’t undo all of its good work on your skin.
If you decide to stop your PS completely your skin will simply return to the way it was before you started using it.
Depending on the length of time you have taken a break for, we may have to adjust your Personalised Skincare to assist you with becoming reaccustomed to the medical ingredients inside.
We will send you a reminder 2 months after your last order so prompt you to reorder, so keep an eye out of that!
Don’t worry-that’s what we are here for! When placing your repeat order you can leave us a note or request a call.
A member of our team will then be in contact with you and have a chat before your cream is ordered.
